Teaching holistically is a challenge for most teachers to accomplish because they teach in classroom environments, where students possess differentiated needs. Teachers are expected to teach students curriculum-specific elements that pertain to the subject they are teaching, but what about all of the other elements that impede learning? What about home life? What about the student who is getting bullied or the student who has divorced parents? How do students balance academics and all the other day-to-day experiences that take up headspace?
5tructure aims to bridge this gap by focusing on teaching students holistically, which encompasses 5 key focus areas:
Using these focus areas, 5tructure creates a personalized learning plan that suits your child's specific needs. The comprehensive report chronicles your child's learning profile, along with outlining key recommendations for the student.
How does the assessment work?
1. Parents will be sent the initial intake form that details the demographics of the child, strengths, areas for improvement, and other elements pertaining to the child's academic background. Parents will also be requested to send their child's latest report card and a sample writing piece, if necessary.
2. Students will be sent a separate intake form that details their SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-Bound) goals, and areas of focus for the sessions.
Each assessment will last anywhere between 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
3. The academic-life coach will meet with the child and parent(s) via Zoom to gain preliminary information about the child's goals, strengths and weaknesses, as well as parent concerns.
*Parent(s) are only present for the first 20-30 minutes of the assessment.
4. Once the parent(s) leave the meeting, the academic-life coach will conduct subject-specific assessments to gauge where the child currently falls on the academic spectrum. This may include a writing sample, reading comprehension test, math test, science test or other subject-related content tests.
5. Students will engage in a multiple intelligences assessment to assess their learner type.
6. Students will complete a wellness assessment.
7. The academic-life coach will begin preparing a personalized learning plan.
